Around 80% of the cholesterol is produced by the liver and all other cholesterol is produced through our diet. Dietary products rich of cholesterol are fish, meat, dairy milk and poultry etc. after the meal, the cholesterol is stored into liver through intestines and it can be secrete from body if needed.
There are two types of cholesterol generally and they are:
LDL Cholesterol
HDL Cholesterol
LDL cholesterol are bad cholesterol and their presence are linked with the risks of coronary heart diseases and on the artery walls,
the LDL cholesterol deposits formed hard and thick substance which is known as cholesterol plaque and it can cause thicken or narrowing artery walls. HDL is a "good" cholesterol type as it removes and extracts out the cholesterol plaques out of the artery walls and dispose them out of liver. So, we can say that for a healthy body, low level of LDL cholesterols and high levels of HDL cholesterols are desirable.
The total cholesterol in human body contains HDL cholesterol which is of high density,
LDL cholesterol which is of low density, IDL cholesterol which is intermediate density and VLDL cholesterol which is of very low density.
The liver manufactures and secretes LDL cholesterol levels from liver. Liver can also remove LDL cholesterol through active LDL receptors on cell surface. The decrease number of cells of LDL receptors is linked with the high number of LDL cholesterol blood levels. The inherited structure and diet both have influence over LDL, HDL and total number of cholesterols. For example, people with non-existent or diminished number of LDL receptors as inherited are suppose to have a disease which can even cause heart attack. |
