Adrenoleukodystrophy

Medical is a vast field and now there more and new diseases are found that were unheard few years of a decade ago. This is because of the new technology and due to the advent of modern science.

In this article I will describe a disease which surely is unknown to you and that is Adrenoleukodystrophy. Adrenoleukodystrophy which is also known as Schilder's disease, Siemerling-Creutzfeldt and sometimes also described with its acronym ALD. Adrenoleukodystrophy is a rare by birth disorder which becomes a strong reason of preogressive brain damage and adrenal glands failure. And all this causes death suddenly or gradually.

Adrenoleukodystrophy or ALD is considered to be a disease in the group of genetic disorders which are known as leukodystrophies .

Well the Adrenoleukodystrophy damages the fat and complex neutral tissue that is myelin sheath which basically insulates the nerves of the peripheral and central nervous system. Without myelin or without its function, all nervous system nerves are unable to help in the transmission of impulse. This leads to disability after some years.

As this disease is inherited so the severity increases after the passage of time because from the very beginning of a child these problems and diseases tends to grow more and more and lead to permanent disability.

Symptoms of Adrenoleukodystrophy can be found in the age from four to ten. In this time period most children starts to loose their basic neurologic abilities and also the degeneration of auditory and visual function.

The treatment of this disease is found but mostly it is seen that after the diagnosis of this disease and after some years most children die due to this disease. Well this disease is very rare but still there are many children who are or who had suffered from this disease. As it is an inherited disease this makes it more difficult to tackle.
