Cytogenetics

As we all know that there are many branches of science and medicine, which vary with the studies. We will discuss about the branch of science which is the branch of genetics. It is known as Cytogenetics. Cytogenetics is concerned with the study of the structure,

function of the cell and the chromosomes. Cytogenetics is the study of chromosomes, the structures inside a cell that carry DNA. This can happen by breaking many pairs of chromosomes can study the individual chromosomes. Cytogenetist can determine whether a baby will be a healthy one or not or if he/she will suffer from any disease.

With the help of this study it can also revealed that what kind of cancer a certain person has. Cyotgenetists look at short arm (P) and long arm (Q), the area where chromosomes are connected. They look at these things to identify which chromosomes are which. P and Q are the most important thing in determining this as every pair of chromosomes has a exclusive length. Extra chromosomes are searched when identifying the disease. Cytogenetists use variety of basic lab equipment, such as microscope, centrifuge and incubator and also includes a water bath.

Normally one set of chromosomes originates from the father and another set from the mother. Numerous birth defects and diseases are the direct result of broken, missing, extra or rearranged chromosomes. Cytogeneticists can identify and recognize many of these vicious chromosomal disorders and abnormalities by examining chromosomes all the way through a microscope. This technique and education is very important for the future and for the identification of diseases. Cancer and many life-threatening diseases can be found out by containing this method of tests.

This job of cytogenetists is very hard as they have to search for the very tiny molecules of chromosomes. Now we hope that in the near future this branch of science prosper more and more and work for improving the human life and save many human lives.
