Diagnosis

Diagnosis is a procedure to identify the causes for the problem. It is included in many disciplines like medicine, sciences, computers, systems engineering and biology. Diagnosis mainly depends on examination through symptoms, causes, effect and experience to determine the error.

Diagnosis in gynecology, which is a field of biological sciences, can be done by gynecologists. However, in many countries women go out to general practitioners to examine and diagnose themselves and if the general practitioner or GP does not have equipment and knowledge for the problems then they direct women for a gynecologist who is a specialist in diagnosing the problems of special field of gynecology for women. On the other hand, women in United States directly go out to gynecologists as the state's law, hospitals and insurance policies all provide it necessary for the gynecologist to provide additional care along with the specialty of their area. So,

women do not need to consider any general practitioner and they directly go to gynecologists for the problems they have.

Gynecological diagnose is more intimate than just a physical exam. It has many tools used specially by the examiner. One of them is speculum which is piece of two hinged metal blades which are of concave shape. They are used to retract the tissues of vagina and examine the cervix, the part of vulva. The lower uterus which is attached to upper part of vagina is all examined through speculum.

One another method of diagnose is bimanual examination in which one hand over abdominal and two fingers inside vagina are placed to check the palpate of cervix, ovaries, uterus and bony pelvic. Rectovaginal diagnose is often used for evaluation of pelvis. Some gynecologists also take ultrasounds to check the diseases and problems occurring in vagina. Usually, male gynecologists have a chaperone to diagnose abnormalities of gynecological organs of women.
