It is not necessary every time that fetal alcohol
syndrome or FAS will occur in babies when their mothers
take alcohol but doctors are unable to research over
how much amount of alcohol can be taken as safe at
the of pregnancy. The recommendations of top surgeons
and pregnancy cases experts till present time are
not to take any amount of alcohol at time of pregnancy
as a measure for health of infant.
Alcohol can be passed through placenta barrier which
means directly passing to unborn after intake and
this alcohol can stunt fetal weight or growth. It
is also possible through alcohol drinking that distinctive
facial stigmata created. Brain structures and neurons
are also damage in fetal alcohol syndrome. The current
survey report in USA shows that about 10 to 15% women
have been reported to use alcohol during pregnancy
and around 30% of women had use alcohol at some point
of their pregnancy period.
The main damage which can be caused using alcohol
is on the central nervous system and it is normally
permanent (cannot be treated) and this can often create
functional disabilities in brain like bad memory,
attention deficits, impetuous behavior and some secondary
functional disabilities are also seen in FAS patients
like mental health problems or drug addiction. The
risks of brain damage can increases in whole time
of pregnancy.
Western world is facing this problem really much
as alcohol is drunk by people more in those regions.
In United States and Europe, an estimate shows that
one baby is medically facing fetal alcohol syndrome
in every hundred children and this ratio is increasing.
The government and medical teams are working hard
to get rid of this problem and using methods to aware
pregnant women to have safe and healthy children.
