As the baby grows in the womb, it experiences many
changes. The changes and the whole experience are
described as the fetal development. There are three
major divisions of fetal development. The three divisions
are conception, embryonic period and fetal period.
The first stage conception is a very short stage,
it is the time when the sperm meets the egg and then
they are fertilized and travel down to the uterus.
The next stage is the embryonic period which is considered
to be the most critical period in the fetal development.
This stage starts from the 2nd week and lasts up
to the 11th week. The heart beat of the child who
is growing in the womb can be detected by the sixth
week.
At the 8th week the teeth of the unborn child starts
to form and the intestines also starts to take shape.
By the end of the 2nd stage most of the organs started
to develop. After the 11th week the last and the longest
stage of the fetal development commence.
From the 11th week to 16th week the bones start to
harden and the liver and kidney starts to begin functioning.
Vocal chords, nails, genitals and hair also develop
in the same period.
The rate of development slows down after the 21 weeks
and after the 24th week the eyebrows and eyelids are
completely formed. From 25 to 28 week the body of
the unborn child continues to grow. Lungs get prepared
to start breathing just after the birth. After the
28th week a baby can be born and the survival chance
is 90% and there will no issue except a small issue
regarding breathing. At the 37 week the baby is complete
and ready to be born, after this time no further development
can be done and no development complications are occurred
if the baby is born after the 37th week.
