Porphyria Chester

The inborn errors of metabolism are porphyrias and in this condition, precise enzyme damages presence in the heme synthesis pathway. Porphyrias are broadly classified into acute and coetaneous porphyrias.

The patients suffering from it have skin problem and neurological complications. Chester Porphyria is a unique type of porphyria and it is similar to acute intermittent porphyria AIP. The first observation of this disease is made in the city of Chester in England in 1963. Chester porphyria is similar to acute porphyria but not exactly same. The patients who have Chester porphyria have attacks of neurovascular dysfunction.

Patients who are reported to have porphyria Chester may have medical history of any of these: high blood pressure,

palpitations, psychological disturbance, paralysis, seizures, headache, constipation and abdominal pain. The physical risks which are bound with Chester porphyrias include epilepsy, renal failure, delusions, hallucinations, paralysis and hypertension.

Some of the drugs like alcohol, tri-cyclic antidepressants, aluminum hydroxides and barbiturates are responsible for causing porphyria of Chester type. Some genetic diseases are also responsible for causing it, while, smoking, certain surgery and metabolic abnormalities are also causing porphyria Chester .

Porphyria is diagnosed through biochemical analysis of blood, urine and stool. Spectroscopy is another method to diagnose it. PBG is the first step to suspect the acute porphyria. As all of the porphyria conditions are rare, most of the hospitals do not have expertise technology in order to determine the disease. The samples of blood, urine and stool are sent generally to labs where they are tested to determine the exact condition.

Symptom controlling, carbohydrates, precipitating factors, hormone treatment and genetic counseling are all possibilities for the treatment of such sorts of porphyrias. Basically, treatment of infection is required to be done and with each sort of infection, treatment can be different. Sometimes, liver is also effected with disease so liver ultrasound is also taken to diagnose disease.
