Premature Pregnancy

Premature pregnancy causes to deliver premature babies which are delivered in a period earlier than 37 weeks. Most pregnancies last about 40 weeks but around 10% of the babies come sooner.

Child who is born within 37 th to 40 th week is considered as full term. Infants who born in earlier period can have more risks to death in the first year of their life. Such babies are also at a risk to develop serious problems like chronic lung disease, mental retardation, gastrointestinal problems and vision and hearing loss. The causes for premature pregnancy babies are still unknown for the greater majority of cases.

The shorter the period of pregnancy, the more the risks will be developing. A report of 2001 shows that around 1 of 8 babies produced is premature.

Doctors work on premature labor to save the child's health. Even if the babies came out in premature period, they are kept in NICU, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit where the incubators are present to keep the babies in ideal atmosphere and medication to avoid the any assorted risks bound with premature pregnancy. The incubators are designed to keep the babies warm and restrict the germs to attack on these infants.

There can be few reasons which are bound with premature pregnancy periods. Here are some of them.
