Phagocytes cells are a form endocytosis and bacteria, dead tissues and small mineral particles are all examples of the phagocyte cells. It evolves the process of engulfing solid particles by the cell membrane. So, this way the harmful cells and viruses can be cleared out of body. They can also clear old cells and abnormal cells out of body.
The cells in reticuloendothelial system are chiefly monocytes and macrophages, where monocyte and macrophages both are types of white bloods and macrophages differs with internal tissue presence.
Reticuloendothelial system is accumulated in spleen and lymph nodes. Phagocyte cells are out from stem cells and from there, they become monocytes and they circulate in the blood. Many of these monocytes circulate to different tissues in the body. When they leave out of circulation, they are now macrophages. Macrophages are usually large in size and they occur normally in liver, spleen, lymph nodes, brain and subcutaneous tissues.
The names of macrophages can be different depending on the location of their presence and their shape can also be different.
They are known as microglia when they are in brain, when they are in liver they are called kupffer cells. In spleen, bone marrow and lymph nodes, they are known as reticule cells. Every type of cells in reticuloendothelial system and they function as first layer to defense and protect the body. They can damage and destroy all outside objects to the body like bacteria, viruses and some sutures and threads remain at time of surgery. Some of the macrophages are mobile and they group together to ingest larger cells outside the body.
Not only defense and ingestion of foreign cells is done in reticuloendothelial system but they can present other cells to immune system. |
